The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden’s extended summer hours return as Extended Summer Evenings from June through September. The Garden stays open late on Tuesdays and Fridays—giving you more time to enjoy the beauty of summer, your way.
Come early. Stay late. Or arrive just in time for sunset.
Wander paths in full bloom, relax on the lawn, or take in the glow of golden hour across the gardens. Whether you’re meeting friends, planning a date night, or enjoying a family outing, Extended Summer Evenings offer a flexible, welcoming way to experience the Botanical Garden.

Note: Some areas or evenings may close for private events—please check the calendar before you visit.
The Garden will close at 5 pm on Sept. 4.

Make It a Full Experience
Picnic in the Garden
(Tuesdays & Fridays)
Create your perfect summer evening with Flora’s picnic boxes for two—featuring charcuterie or sandwich options with fresh sides.
- Vegetarian options available
- Wine and non-alcoholic beverages available
- Pick up from concessions between 5–7 PM
Advance reservations recommended.
Pizza on the Patio
(Fridays)
Spend your Friday evening on the patio with handcrafted pizza and beautiful views of the water garden and downtown Des Moines. Each reservation includes:
- A light appetizer
- One 14” fast-fired pizza
- A sweet finish
Pair with wine or beverages available for purchase.
Reservations required. Admission to the Garden is not included. You can purchase admission in the cafe or at the front desk before touring the Garden.

- In the event a Muisc in the Garden concert is rescheduled to a Tuesday or Friday, Extended Summer Evenings is canceled.
