    Discover the ancient Japanese art of bonsai, learn its fascinating history, how to care for these unique specimens, and how to wire and shape them into living sculptures. The Bonsai for Beginners class fee includes a starter bonsai plant and expert instruction from members of the Iowa Bonsai Association. This is a two-part class. Registration includes both sessions and admission to the Garden to enjoy after the program. $90 Members | $100 Nonmembers This class is full--please consider attending the class offered in August.     Visit the Spring Garden Market for a unique shopping experience located in Des Moines’ most beautiful garden setting. Shop hundreds of plant varieties and tried-and-true favorites. All selected by our own horticulturalists that flourish in central Iowa. New to the market is the Dome Grown Collection. This unique offering of plants is grown in house by our horticulture team. Fill your cart with a wide selection of veggies, herbs, and other plants. Each are specially curated and often featured in our annual displays and collections throughout the Garden. While shopping, enjoy food, fun, and more. In addition, find art and other garden-related merchandise from our variety of vendors and community partners. Learn more about some of our region's most special plants from our local plant societies and master gardeners. Horticulturists and volunteers will also be onsite throughout the event to help answer your questions! Shop over 300 varieties of plants hand-selected by the Garden’s very own horticulturists, including many unique varieties grown at the Botanical Garden!     Mother's Day Sunday brunch at Flora SOLD OUT. The buffet will feature hot breakfast items, fruit and pastries, coffee and brunch beverages. Limited seating available—book early. Enjoy the Botanical Garden after your meal with your family with daily admission. Get tickets here. Remember, mom gets in free on Sunday May 10.   • Spring Ephemeral Hike

    Join Botanical Garden staff on a leisurely stroll through Brown’s Woods Forest Preserve in search of spring ephemerals and mushrooms. Participants of all ages are welcome to enjoy this mile-long hike to search and learn more about these short-lived treasures such as trout lily, spring beauty, and dutchman’s breeches.   • Flower Pounding

    Capture the blooms of May in a fun and artistic way. We will spend this time learning how to press flowers onto paper and fabric. In doing so we will transfer their beautiful colors and intricate designs onto these materials.
