    Fall Prairie Seed Walk

    Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge

    Go on a Fall Prairie Seed Walk. Celebrate the beauty of autumn while learning the art of seed collecting on this guided prairie hike at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, located 30 minutes east of Des Moines. Join Botanical Garden and NSNWR staff for a casual walk to explore local landscapes, identify native plants, and discover proper techniques for collecting and utilizing seeds for future planting. Gain insight into prairie plant lifecycles, seed dispersal, and the importance of preserving native species. Participants will collect, process, and take home some native prairie seeds!     Join us for Story Sprouts Children's Story Time on Fridays this Fall! This fun, interactive story time explores nature and plants in the naturally inspiring setting of the Botanical Garden. During each program participants enjoy stories and an activity based on the week’s theme. Story Sprouts is geared toward children ages two to five. Explore the indoor or outdoor gardens with your kids, including Nature Play™, before or after the program, weather permitting. Your children will love it!
