Time to Dig In & Learn

Dreaming of better weather?

Winter’s respite from the growing season doesn’t mean you should stop growing as a gardener! When the weather chills down, come join us in the always friendly climate of the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Here warm, smiling faces want to help you grow your gardening practices. Learn about sustainable gardening techniques, eco-friendly practices, and how to keep your garden adapting to changing Iowa conditions.

Get out and grow

Spend your Saturday mornings learning from experts who will challenge you to accomplish greater success in your garden. Whether creating your own little Versailles, coaxing a crop of veggies, or looking to do things differently, we have a Learn on Saturdays class with you in mind! And this year we’ve got quite the line up. Don’t miss Kim Eierman as our keynote speaker to kick off the series. Her goal? To change how we think about and manage our landscapes to improve our challenged environment. As Kim tells her clients, audiences and readers, “Small changes to our landscapes can make huge environmental improvements.”

With natural areas rapidly diminishing, species declining at historic rates, and climate change dealing new blows to environmental health, our managed landscapes have never been more important. Unfortunately, many of our traditional gardening and landscaping practices have contributed to unhealthy ecosystems.

Kim founded EcoBeneficial LLC, a horticulture communications and consulting company, to inspire, educate and demonstrate how we can become ecological stewards of our own landscapes, no matter how large or how small. As Kim says: “Every landscape matters.”

In no time, it will be Springtime!

While it may be cold outside, it’s the perfect time to take a look at what you’ve been doing and see how you might find better success. Or even how to try something new. Spring is not far away and if you start now, before you know it, you’ll be kicking off those waterproof boots, tossing your gloves in a bucket and hanging up your tools as you take in your beautiful, environmentally resilient green space.

Sign up for a class (or the whole series) today! And, those who attend the whole series get a voucher for 10% off your purchase at our Spring Garden Market this May.
