The Origin of the Garden’s Summer Concert Series

In 2015, following the Garden’s renovation and transformation of 7 acres of outdoor space, our team began asking one another, “What are your dreams for the future of the Botanical Garden?”

After collecting feedback from Botanical Garden members, staff, volunteers and visitors, we received many requests related to adding educational programs for all ages and creating more special events and entertainment experiences. In addition, our existing music series, Botanical Blues, which fills the conservatory Sunday afternoons January through March, garnered significant support from respondents.

This positive feedback combined with requests for additional offerings prompted the Garden to consider another concert series. And, with seven new acres of outdoor gardens to work with, creating an outdoor series seemed appropriate. After another year of planning and development, the Garden’s inaugural Social Irrigation concert series ran in 2017, presented by EMC Insurance Companies.

Now, after two successful seasons with steadily increasing attendance, we are excited to kick off the summer series’ third season with a performance from Tony Valdez and the Rockets on June 13. Each night of the series will also feature small plates from Trellis Café, local craft beer selections, lawn games, garden demonstrations and activities for all ages.

View the full Social Irrigation lineup and join us Thursday evenings in the Garden for family-friendly entertainment all summer long.
