Yoga in the Garden | Wednesday, May 1 and 15, 6-7 p.m.
Take some time to relax and re-center yourself in the Botanical Garden’s lush conservatory or outdoor gardens. We will focus on a therapeutic style of yoga called somayoga which is a unique blend of work that includes classic asana, traditional therapeutic yoga, and re-education of somatics. These classes are perfect for all abilities. Don’t forget to bring your yoga mat and water bottle. Due to limited capacity, preregistration is required.

FULL: Bonsai for Beginners | Saturday, May 4 and Saturday, May 18, 9 a.m.-Noon
Discover the ancient Japanese art of bonsai, learn its fascinating history, how to care for these unique specimens, and how to wire and shape them into living sculptures with the Iowa Bonsai Association. The class fee includes a starter bonsai plant. This is a two-part class. Registration includes both sessions.

Spring Ephemeral Hike| Saturday, May 4, 1-3 p.m.
Join Botanical Garden staff on a leisurely stroll through Brown’s Woods Forest Preserve, located near Valley Junction. Participants of all ages are welcome to enjoy this mile-long hike in search of native spring flowers, mushrooms, and more. Participants will also receive a small notebook, pencil, and pocket plant field guide.

We’re going on a mushroom walk! Join Botanical Garden staff and mushroom experts from the Prairie State Mushroom Club on a leisurely stroll through Brown’s Woods Forest Preserve, located near Valley Junction. Throughout the hike we will identify mushrooms and plants that we discover. Registration is required.

Rain Barrel Workshop | Thursday, May 23, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Join us for this workshop and learn how to build your own rain barrel to take home! The average home generates more than 200 gallons of storm water runoff from just one-fourth of an inch of rain. Rain barrels are a low-cost, simple, and efficient way to collect and recycle water and help improve our local water quality right here in Des Moines!
