What’s happier than learning about interesting houseplants while enjoying a glass of wine? Our  staff will teach you helpful tips on how to keep your houseplants healthy at home. Then pot up a houseplant to add to your plant family and put your new knowledge to use. Registration required.

FULL: Tropical Needle Felting | Tuesday, March 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Learn the art of needle-felting! You’ll learn techniques to create beautiful felted wool art in a casual, relaxed environment in this beginner-friendly workshop. Follow along step-by-step, or create freely with a rainbow of colors! All tools and supplies will be provided for use during the workshop, including a 4” hoop for framing your work. Led by artist Megan Hammer.

Yoga in the Garden | Wednesday, March 6 and 20 6-7 p.m.
Take some time to relax and re-center yourself in the Botanical Garden’s lush conservatory. Whether you are a yoga expert or looking to try something new, this is the perfect class for you. Don’t forget to bring your yoga mat and water bottle. Due to limited capacity, preregistration is required.

Dive into the exciting world of air plants with Horticulturist Laura Pence and learn the skills required to successfully care for them. Participants receive three or more air plants and create their own display to showcase them at home.

Yes, there’s botany in beer! Learn about various plants used to brew beer and why their qualities make them ideal candidates. Then sample different types of beer consisting of different botanicals from Big Grove Brewery. Participants must be 21 or over. Registration required.

Wonder why some seeds just won’t germinate? Tired of stringy seedlings? Learn how to help seeds overcome dormancy and tips for growing healthy seedlings indoors. Participants will have the opportunity to start seeds in class and take them home. Registration required.

FULL: Fairy Gardens | Thursday, March 21, 5:30-7 p.m.
Our Fairy Garden workshop is a magical class and fun for all ages (that’s right, the adults will love it too). In this class you will create handmade structures such as a twig fence, arbor, and a bench or chair. Moss, pebbles, soil, and two plants are provided to create a natural environment. We offer a wide selection of fairies, cottages, and accessories to bring your fairy garden to life! Registration required.

Celebrate the season with a glass of wine and a walk through the Botanical Garden. Learn about what is in bloom, what is coming soon, and timely updates from our director of horticulture, Aaron Harpold. All participants must be at least 21 years of age.

Explore the versatile medium of acrylic paint with Kelsey Wilson on a mini canvas. Learn about the different brushes and techniques used to create beautiful works of art with nature as your muse. Choose a plant or flower in the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden to bring it to life with your new skills! Great for ages 12+.
