Kokedama | Thursday, July 6, 5:30-7 p.m.
A floating garden is the perfect way to add some green and interest to your home. Kokedama is a unique gardening style from Japan that allows people to create a garden outside of a pot! In this class, learn the history of kokedama, gardening skills, and care tips while creating your own floating garden!

Composting 101 | Tuesday, July 11, 5:30-7 p.m.
Get the ‘dirt’ on how to compost from compost enthusiast, Carissa Thoma, owner of Down to Earth Living. Learn the composting process from start to finish and find the composting techniques that best fit your lifestyle. This class includes starter compost.

Dance in the Garden | Thursdays July 13 and 20, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Join us for a captivating dance experience amidst the enchanting splendor of the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden! Discover the perfect harmony of nature and movement as we present a delightful dance class like no other. After the class, immerse yourself in the rhythms and melodies of a live band, playing music complementing the style of dance you just learned.

Talented instructors from Des Moines Ballroom or Mambo Soul Dance Company will guide you through a range of dance styles, from the spirited swing to the energetic salsa, ensuring that both beginners and seasoned dancers can participate and enjoy.

Sip and Stroll | Friday, July 14, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Celebrate the summer season with a glass of wine and a walk through the Botanical Garden at the ever-popular Sip and Stroll! All participants must be at least 21 years of age.

Weeds can often hide in plain sight while quietly affecting how our gardens grow and look. Together, we will explore some of these common chameleons of the garden and how to deal with their existence.

Botanical Dye Workshop | Thursday, July 20, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Experience plant magic with this hands-on workshop with Fiddlehead Studio dedicated to botanical dyes! Learn the basics of how to make your own natural dyes from common plants as well as folding techniques to create fun and unique designs. Then dye your own beautiful textiles in a palette of natural colors. Participants receive one silk scarf and one flour sack towel to work with and are encouraged to bring one item of their own to dye as well.

Combine plants, science, and design to create miniature worlds. Learn how to design and care for terrariums, then build your own. All materials are provided, just bring your creativity!

Flower Happy Hour | Thursday, July 27, 5:45-6:45 p.m.

Grab your friends, grab a beverage, and learn how to design a stunning floral arrangement built around seasonal blooms! All materials are provided. All participants must be 21 or older and receive complimentary admission to Music in the Garden after the class.
